The core element of our project is the annotation of cylinder seal images. We do this according to coherent controlled vocabularies which we developed for the project in accordance with the existing scholarly literature. The aim is a transparent and consistent labeling process for each picture element, which avoids synonyms and terminological discrepancies for the same figure or feature.
We link these vocabularies to existing authority data repositories especially to the Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT) whenever possible.
In the following list, you can find the terms used by the ACAWAI-CS project team: From the definition of general terms, to class names for each picture element, and detailed attributes grouped by category. Since we constantly expand our dataset to new regions and periods, the vocabulary will grow continuously and remain, therefore, a work in progress. We are updating this list regularly.
